- Large engines (6LP, 6LY, 8LV), Yanmar’s durable high output engines, equally suited to leisure and commercial applications.
Why choose an authorised Yanmar dealer?
Choosing an authorised Yanmar dealer ensures your engine will be serviced to the manufacturer’s specification using genuine Yanmar parts. This protects your warranty, maintains resale value, and gives you confidence that the work has been carried out by engineers with direct access to Yanmar technical support, service bulletins and approved training.
At Mountbatten Boathouse, we have been installing, servicing and repairing Yanmar marine engines from Plymouth Yacht Haven in Devon for well over 25 years. Our engineers have familiarity with the full Yanmar diesel range and we carry a comprehensive stock of service parts, filters, belts and anodes. If we haven’t got a part in stock, we can very often get it within 24 hours.
Yanmar engine service schedule
Yanmar recommends all Yanmar diesel marine engines are serviced at least annually or, for high use engines, after a specified number of running hours. A typical annual service includes:
- Engine oil and oil filter change
- Fuel filter replacement
- Raw water pump inspection and impeller replacement
- Drive belt inspection and replacement if required
- Zinc anode inspection and replacement
- Cooling system flush and thermostat check
- Full operational test
For leisure users we recommend booking an annual service in Autumn (September to November). This can be tied in with winterising if required and ensures your engine spends the quieter months protected by nice clean fluids whilst also helping you to beat the Spring rush. Looking for Yanmar marine engine parts in Plymouth?
Here at Mountbatten Boathouse we stock a comprehensive selection of service kits, spare parts and consumable items such as oils and coolant for the full range of Yanmar marine engines which we supply to both trade and retail customers. Our knowledgeable team have full access to Yanmar parts catalogues and other resources too. If we don’t have the part you need, we deal direct with Yanmar’s UK importer and can get parts fast – often within 24 hours. Not local? Delivery is available on most items.
Good to know…
Occasionally there may be two or more different part numbers for variations of the same item, even on engines with the same model designation, for example when an engine is offered with options such as exhaust elbow style or alternator or where there is a design change part way through a model run. For that reason when looking for parts, the more information you can give us, the quicker and easier it is for us to help. A part number would be perfect – but failing that we’ll ask for the full model designation e.g. 3YM30 as a minimum and preferably the serial number too – you’ll normally find this engraved on a plate on the engine. Where there’s any doubt pictures can be really useful too.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does a Yanmar diesel marine engine need servicing?
Yanmar recommends an annual service or every 100–250 hours (model and application dependent), whichever comes first. Even if your engine has done limited hours, an annual oil, fuel filter and impeller change is essential to maintain reliability and prolong service life.
Do you carry Yanmar spare parts in stock?
Yes. As an authorised main dealer we hold a comprehensive range of genuine Yanmar parts including filters, impellers, belts, oils, coolant, anodes and gaskets. Parts not in stock can normally be ordered and received within 1–2 working days. Our friendly team provide advice to both retail and trade customers who wish to carry out their own service and repair work.
Can you service a Yanmar engine that has been maintained elsewhere?
Absolutely. We service all Yanmar engines (and other makes) regardless of age and service history.
How long does a Yanmar engine last?
We regularly see Yanmar engines still running well after 30 years or more of service. The most important factor in determining how long a Yanmar engine will last is how well it has been looked after. With careful maintenance and regular servicing a Yanmar engine can easily achieve several thousand running hours. Equally, a neglected or carelessly used engine could be destroyed in relatively quickly.
