Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I buy a Mercury outboard?

We believe Mercury produce quite simply the best outboards and the most comprehensive range on the market today.  Mercury are so confident in the quality of their products that they offer one of the best warranties in the industry at up to 7 years (subject to conditions). Not surprising then that Mercury engines are also among the most sought after on the used market, helping to ensure high residual values for your investment.

How often should a Mercury Four Stroke outboard be serviced?

Mercury recommends an annual service or every 100 hours of use, whichever comes first. For engines used in salt water, annual servicing is critically
important to minimise corrosion of key components.

Do you service Mariner outboards?

Yes. Mariner outboards share Mercury’s engineering and are fully supported by our service team using genuine Mercury/Mariner parts.

Can you come to my marina to service my outboard?

In many cases, yes — our engineers work across all Plymouth marinas. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we will confirm availability.

What fuel should I use in my Mercury or Mariner outboard?

We recommend only using E5 grade fuel (also known as super-unleaded) in your outboard.  This is because the higher ethanol content in standard unleaded causes faster fuel degradation, often in as little as 6 weeks.  If the engine isn’t going to be used for some months it’s a good idea to drain the fuel completely, or to use a good quality fuel stabilises such as Quicksilver QuickStor.
